What is the difference between monocrystalline silicon photovoltaic modules and polycrystalline silicon photovoltaic modules?
Monocrystalline Photovoltaic modules can be recognized at a glance: they are dark blue color, quite black. The cells have beveled edges and are composed by crystals of monocrystalline silicon, all directed towards the same direction.

What does change compared to the polycrystalline ones?

They are usually more efficient: it means that they need a surface less than the one needed for polycrystalline modules in order to generate the same amount of energy. In fact, the monocrystalline module is the one marked by a greater efficiency: it goes from 18 to 20% of efficiency and, in order to produce 1 kw of peak power, it needs about 6 square meters.

Monocrystalline modules are generally composed by 60 cells and they reach a range of peak power of 300-315wp. It is also possible to have the alternative one with 72 cells with which it can reach powers between 350-370wp.

This type of photovoltaic modules are very sensible to shading, even partial, they work better if sun rays fall down perfectly perpendicular on their surface. They are normally used at high altitudes to better exploit their characteristics.

Among all possible solutions, it is the most expansive one. The choice is on monocrystalline modules, especially in optimal conditions of irradiation, that is when you want to maximize the available surface, because of its efficiency in relation to the space occupied.
